In this lesson students will learn about cell cycle regulation and cell differentition. This lesson will consist of a lecture with powerpoint notes. Students will actively take notes with a study guide that is provided.
Objectives
Students will be able to...
understand how the cell cycle is regulated
explain how cancer cells differ from other cells
explain how cells become specialized for specific functions
describe stem cells, issues and benefits for stem cell research
To begin the lesson I will allow students to ask if they have any questions about their mitosis flip book. I will remind the class that it is due the following class and points will be taken off it is late. After questions will be addressed I will then go into the lesson. First recap all that we have learned about cell divisions and why. I will then ask the following questions to the class. (10-15min)
Based on information that we already know, how do cells know when to divide?
Do all cells have the same functions?
Who can tell me what cancer is?
Why do you think cancer cells are different from regular cells?
These are some of the questions that we are going to clarify the answers to today
Activities
For the remainder of the class I will then present the power point to the class. I will as interactive questions, allow students to ask questions they might have provide pictures and videos to help drive home concepts. All this time students will fill in the notes packet that I have provided to use a study guide. There is one point in the lecture in which I will visit another site with pictures and short paragrahs explains more about cancer cell growth. I will call on studetns to read the paragraphs and then go over them in detail
Closing
As a closing when the presentation is done I will revisit the exact questions that I asked the class at the beginning of the period. I will evaluate if their answers differed from the beginning of the class to the end with the new information that was learned.

Assessment Notes
I will assess students knowledge on the topics introduced in class. I will get a grasp on topics that were understood well and those that need more review
